Receiver Ivan Birungi of the Acadia Axemen is the Atlantic University Sport Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending October 17th, 2004. In Acadia’s 44-23 homecoming win over the StFX X-men this past weekend, Birungi was impressive when it counted as he hauled in three touchdown passes. Birungi, a second year receiver from Pickering, ON, finished the day with 5 receptions for 65 yards. Along with the 18 points he put on the scoreboard, Ivan also had an interception after being inserted as a defensive back during a prevent defense late in the first half. Birungi currently leads the AUFC in scoring with 48 points, touchdowns (8), receptions (30) and is second in receiving yardage with 403 yards through six games.

Defensive Back Steve McCart of the StFX X-Men is the Atlantic University Sport Defensive player of the Week for the week ending October 17th, 2004. Despite a 44-23 loss Saturday afternoon in Wolfville, McCart had another outstanding day defensively for the X-Men as he recorded a game high 8 solo tackles and added an interception which he returned for 20 yards. Steve, a 1st year Arts student from LaSalle, Ontario is having an impressive first year as he currently leads the conference with 3 interceptions and is tied for 8th in the CIS. The 1-5 X-Men will host the 1-5 Bishop's Gaiters this Saturday in Antigonish as they look to pick up their second win of the season.
